Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What’s your hourly rate?
A: The studio hourly rate is $85.00/hour. Every project starts at a minimum of two hours... kind of like a cab ride where the fare begins at a set starting point.
Q: How much is a logo?
A: The creation of logos or corporate identities are based on two main components: budget and complexity of the brand. For small businesses or for identities that don’t require the research required to ensure a unique identity, design charges generally fall between 4-8 hours ($340 - $680). For more complex identity requests (breadth of use, relationship to peer groups, etc.), design charges generally fall between $500 and $1500. Additional charges apply to any logo and brand applications such as letterhead, business cards, brochures, packaging, website templates and/or advertising.
Q: How much is a website?
A: Website design is a fairly broad area that requires analysis into the type of site that suits your needs:
- Will the site be essentially an online brochure? (For simplicity’s sake, a site consisting of 10 pages or less that functions only as an online brochure can range in price from $1000 - $1500)
- Would you like to be able to make webpage edits and manage the site yourself? (This type of site requires a more thorough analysis, but for simplicity’s sake, the range is generally from $2,500 - $5,000 for 10 pages or less.)
- Does the site need extensive and ongoing maintenance? Most likely no, but site optimization services are available to assist with site visibility.
Q: How much are other items... like a brochure or a catalogue or a sign?
A: It’s nearly impossible to provide a general price for these items; they’re custom pieces that require an examination of the components. Questions to examine include:
- What is the condition of the source content/text? (Is it in a finished state and free of errors?)
- Are source photos and/or graphics required? (Are they client supplied or are we sourcing/creating them?)
- What is the deadline? (Will this be a rush job that may require us to alter our current production schedule?)
- Is there an operating budget?
- How many people are involved in the approval process?
- How large is the project?
Q: Do all projects require quotes and how accurate are they?
A: All projects are estimated once details have been collected and analyzed. Price quotes are generated displaying an estimated range of time based on a 3-proof method of design. The range of time forecasts a low and high estimate, with our target being somewhere in the middle of that range. If we are able to adhere to the 3-proof model, then we will be able to adhere to the range of estimated time. If more than three proofs are requested, then additional time may be accrued, but in this unlikely scenario, we will not proceed past any provided range of estimated time without a client consultation in advance.
Once an estimate has been approved, a production schedule is generated to provide targeted completion dates for each aspect of the project.
Q: Is a deposit required?
A: For first-time clients, we require a 50% deposit on the lowest amount of the agreed estimate, with the balance due on completion.
Q: Are payment terms offered?
A: After initial projects and on approved credit, we extend payment terms ranging from 15 - 30 days.
Q: What payments are accepted?
A: Sharkbite Art + Design accepts cash, cheque, VISA or Mastercard + PayPal
Q: Who owns the artwork once the project is completed?
A: Once payment has been received, all finished files are the property of the client, and by request, can be archived to any desired format for your records. All source files used internally for the preparation of finished files remain the property of Sharkbite Art & Design unless otherwise indicated at the onset of the project.
